IOR and IOSI honoured at SOHC 2025

At the Swiss Oncology and Hematology Congress (SOHC) 2025 – one of the largest medical meetings in Switzerland, bringing together all major national organisations active in oncology and hematology – Prof. Franco Cavalli, Prof. Davide Rossi, Prof. Anastasios Stathis and Dr Guido Ghilardi from the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR) and the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI-EOC) received prestigious recognitions for their contributions to cancer research. The congress took place in Basel from 19 to 21 November 2025.

Prof. Franco Cavalli, President of the IOR Foundation, received the first-ever SOHC Lifetime Achievement Award during the Opening Ceremony, in recognition of his outstanding career and pioneering role in oncology.

Prof. Davide Rossi, Group Leader at IOR and Deputy Head of Haematology at IOSI, was awarded the Jacques and Gloria Gossweiler Foundation (JGGF) Research Grant 2025 during the Award Session, acknowledging his innovative work in lymphoma research.

In addition, the SOHC Best Abstract Award – SSMO/SSH Award for Clinical Hemato-Oncology was conferred to a study conducted by Prof. Anastasios Stathis (IOSI-EOC) and colleagues from various Swiss and Italian centres, coordinated by SCI in collaboration with the IOR, entitled “Feasibility of ctDNA and PET guided therapy in untreated DLBCL: preliminary results of the SAKK 38/19 phase II trial”.

Furthermore, Dr Guido Ghilardi (IOSI-EOC) received the Ellermann Prize “Young Hematologists” 2025, recognising his promising contributions to the field of haematology.

These recognitions underscored the excellence and impact of the IOR and IOSI community in advancing clinical and translational haematology in Switzerland and beyond.
