Institutional Communication Service
To celebrate the Swiss National Day, on August 1, the national broadaster SRG-SSR aired a tv special - simultaneously on all networks and in the four national languages - offering a series of reports from every part of the country, including one from the biomedical research center in Bellinzona, where viewers where led through a 'journey' to discover what researchers do at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB, affiliated to USI).
Guided by IRB Director Davide Robbiani, RTR (Radiotelevisiun Svizra Rumantscha) presenter Corina Schmed visited the construction site of the new Biomedical Research Center in Bellinzona, which will open in November 2021 and accommodate the laboratories of the IRB and of the IOR (Institute of Oncological Research, also affiliated to USI). The Romansh-speaking presenter then followed a 'step-by-step tour' through a few of the IRB laboratories in its current facility, discovering activities related to both basic and more applied scientific research, such as the development of a second-generation antibody that protects against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants.
