The Institute of Oncology Research (IOR)

The IOR, affiliated with the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), is located in a brand-new, high-tech research building that hosts more than 20 different research groups. It offers state-of-the-art labs and facilities, which include fully equipped Flow Cytometry, Microscopy, Genomics and Histopathology Facilities. Together with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), the IOR is a member of Bios+, a non-profit association aiming to promote, support, and coordinate its members' scientific research and teaching activities (www.biosplus.ch). The Stem Cells & Cancer Lab, led by Prof. Arianna Baggiolini, explores a wide array of topics, ranging from human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-based models of development and disease to cancer neuroscience and the tumor microenvironment. The lab offers an international, inclusive, and dynamic atmosphere

Requirements

We offer a 1-year contract for the Lab Technician position. The position can be 50%-100%. The ideal candidate is a pro-active, flexible, independent, and team-oriented scientist. She/he should be a problem solver with great organizational skills. A background in cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques is required. Furthermore, experience with human pluripotent stem cells or mouse work (LTK1 or equivalent) is a strong advantage. The candidate should have at least one year of previous research experience and hold a degree as a Biological laboratory assistant, a Bachelor of Science degree or a Master of Science degree.

Your responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who can independently organize the lab and contribute to different ongoing projects in parallel.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Lab organization.
  • Ordering and organization of reagents.
  • Preparation of stocks and solutions.
  • Work with cell lines and human pluripotent stem cells.
  • Conduct research using a range of techniques, Western blot, RNA extraction, PCR, qRT-PCR, ELISA, cloning.
  • Mouse colony maintenance and genotyping.

  • Willing to work in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment.
  • Capable of independent thinking, ambitious, focused on discovery and dedicated to performing research of the highest quality.
  • Team players with excellent communication and writing skills (English).
