The Institute of Oncology Research (IOR)


The IOR, affiliated with the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), is located in a brand-new, high-tech research building that hosts more than 20 different research groups. It offers state-of-the-art labs and facilities, which include fully equipped Flow Cytometry, Microscopy, Genomics and Histopathology Facilities. Together with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), the IOR is a member of Bios+, a non-profit association aiming to promote, support, and coordinate its members' scientific research and teaching activities (www.biosplus.ch). IOR offers a multicultural environment and daily occasions of interaction with world leaders in the fields of cancer, basic immunology, and cancer immunology, a thriving environment, an exciting research project and multiple occasions of interaction with world leaders in the fields of cancer, basic immunology, and cancer immunology (see Ph.D. lecture series at PhD Program).


The Stem Cells & Cancer Lab, led by Prof. Arianna Baggiolini, explores a wide array of topics, ranging from human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-based models of development and disease to cancer neuroscience and the tumor microenvironment. The lab offers an international, inclusive, and dynamic atmosphere and is inviting applications for a PhD student position. The future student will be enrolled in the International PhD Program in Cancer Biology and Oncology of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). The project will be on hPSC-based models of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and it will be in close collaboration with our postdoctoral fellow Dr. Jonas Van Lent, a PNS expert.


Requirements
Candidates should have a Master degree related to life sciences with practical laboratory experience (cell biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, medicine, etc), and be fluent in English.
