The Lancet publishes the results of the IELSG43/MATRix Phase III Trial in Primary CNS Lymphoma

The Foundation for the Institute of Oncology Research is proud to announce the publication of the IELSG43/MATRix randomized phase III trial in The Lancet, one of the world's most prestigious international medical journals. This publication represents an important recognition of the longstanding commitment of the International Extranodal Lymphoma Study Group (IELSG), directed by Professor Emanuele Zucca (consultant at the IOSI), to advancing research in extranodal lymphomas and improving patient outcomes.
The study evaluated high-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem-cell transplantation (HCT–ASCT) versus non-myeloablative consolidation in patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL).
This study, conducted at 56 trial sites within the networks of the German Cooperative PCNSL Study Group and the International Extranodal Lymphoma Study Group (IELSG), is the largest randomized trial in untreated PCNSL to date. It showed that HCT–ASCT significantly improves progression-free and overall survival compared with non-myeloablative consolidation in patients who had completed induction treatment, establishing it as the preferred consolidation strategy in fit patients.
These findings represent an important milestone in the collective effort to improve care for patients with PCNSL and reinforce the value of continued collaborative research in this challenging disease area.
