The Institute of Oncology Research (IOR)
The IOR, affiliated with the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), is in a brand-new, high-tech research building that hosts more than 20 different research groups, with state-of-the-art labs and facilities. Together with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), the IOR is a member of Bios+, a recently established non-profit association aiming to promote, support, and coordinate scientific research and teaching activities of its members (www.biosplus.ch). IOR offers a multicultural environment and daily occasions of interaction with world leaders in the fields of cancer, basic immunology, and cancer immunology. The Theurillat lab offers a brand-new, fully equipped environment and an international, stimulating, dynamic, and friendly atmosphere.

Project background
The successful candidate will work as part of an international team that is dedicated to understanding how molecular alterations promote tumorigenesis, and how gathered insights can be exploited to develop better therapies. The position offers excellent scientific opportunities in a highly stimulating and interdisciplinary environment involving close interactions between medical and basic scientists.

Job description
We seek a highly motivated candidate interested in genomics, gene regulation, and cancer research. We offer a 1-year full-time contract for a Lab Technician/Research assistant position, with the possibility for an extension. Salary will follow the IOR salary scale, which is in line with the rest of Switzerland.

Your profile
The ideal candidate is a proactive, flexible, independent, and team-oriented scientist. She/he should be a problem solver with great organizational skills. A background in cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques is required. Furthermore, experience with mouse work (LTK1 or equivalent) including experience with mouse surgery is a strong advantage. The candidate should have at least one year of previous research experience and hold a degree as a Biological laboratory assistant, a Bachelor of Science degree, or a Master of Science degree.

Your responsibilities
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who can independently organize the lab and in parallel contribute to different ongoing projects.
Main responsibilities include:

  • Lab organization
  • Ordering and organization of reagents
  • Work with cell lines and lentiviral infections
  • Conduct research using a range of techniques, Western blot, RNA extraction, PCR, qRT-PCR, ELISA, cloning
  • Maintenance of a wide range of patient-derived xenograft models for prostate cancer (tissue grafting, testosterone pellet implantation, surgical castration, drug application)
