Cell signaling and modelling
The Cell Signaling and mouse modelling unit focus on the characterization of the molecular mechanisms by which PTEN drives prostate cancer development, progression and metastatic dissemination. Recently, this unit has generated different genetically engineered mouse models to achieve these objectives. Among those, the Ptenpc-/-; Timp1-/- and the Ptenpc-/-; Cdcp1pc+/+ models (Guccini I, Cancer Cell 2021, Alajati A J Clin Invest, 2020) have contributed to dissecting the mechanism by which prostate cancer becomes metastatic and castration-resistant. Ongoing research projects elucidate the involvement of new key players of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and their crosstalk with the tumour microenvironment in prostate cancer to develop new therapeutic strategies.
